Copenhagen - UndeRstanding and Preventing Injury in Sports group (C-URPRIS)

We want to understand the epidemiology and injury mechanism in sports related injury to be able to prevent the injuries.

Group Leader

Niels Christian Kaldau, MD is the group and theme lead of Copenhagen - UnderRstanding and  PReventing Injuries in Sport group (C-URPRIS). C-URPRIS is formed by orthopedic surgeon, Niels Christian Kaldau and involves currently MD, PhD-student Thomas Wagenblast Mayntzhusen, MD, Frederik Flensted Andersen and MD., Simon Sidenius Brockhusen.

Background

To prevent injuries in sport, it is important to understand the magnitude of the problem, the nature of the injuries, their distribution across sex and age groups, and the underlying injury mechanisms. This knowledge allows preventive studies to be initiated and the impact of implemented prevention strategies to be monitored.

Focus

We aim to understand how injuries affect specific populations in terms of injury burden and return to sport. Our work focuses on collecting patient-centered information through both retrospective and prospective data collection. We also conduct biomechanical studies in cooperation with our gait and movement laboratory.

We have a broad interest in sports-related injuries across all types of sport, with a specific focus on badminton through our cooperation with the Badminton World Federation. Among injury types, Achilles tendon injuries and ACL injuries have received particular attention.
