Purpose of the study/project​​​​

To investigate the epidemiology of ACL injuries and the impact of athletes in Denmark from 2000-2018.

About the study/project

An ACL injury is one of the most serious injuries in sport. It can lead to reduced sports participation, impaired performance, and serious long-term consequences, such as knee osteoarthritis. We expect to publish papers on ACL injuries in football, handball, basket, volley, badminton, skiing and tennis. 

In this study, we investigate the distribution of ACL injuries and ACL reconstructions in Denmark from 2000 to 2018. We place special focus on how athletes sustained their injuries across different sports, as well as when and whether they returned to sport.

This is the largest study of its kind worldwide. It can provide important knowledge about athletes treated non-operatively, a group that has not been widely studied in the existing literature.​
