Group Leader 

​Adam Witten​​, PhD, assoc. professor, is an orthopedic surgeon specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of traumatic and non-traumatic shoulder and knee conditions. His clinical work includes both surgical and non-surgical management of a wide range of patients, from non-athletes and recreational exercisers to elite athletes. He is a senior researcher and group leader in SORC-C, president of the Danish Society for Arthroscopic Surgery and Sports Orthopedics (since 2024), and team doctor of Lyngby BK/Football Klub (since 2016).

Background

The group’s research takes its starting point in challenges encountered in clinical practice. Research questions are developed in close interaction with clinical work, ensuring that they are relevant to both patients and clinicians. This approach allows clinical challenges to be translated into structured research questions, while new results can be implemented back into clinical practice to improve patient care.

Focus

The focus of the group is on improving diagnostics and treatment of shoulder and knee conditions. This includes refining diagnostic pathways, developing and evaluating both surgical and non-surgical treatment strategies, and strengthening clinical decision-making.

Current research projects cover a range of common and clinically important conditions, including frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), subacromial pain syndrome, calcified tendinopathy, rotator cuff injury, shoulder instability, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, meniscal injury, achilles tendon rupture, and concussion management in athletes.​​​​
