Focus

Hospitalized patients in the medical departments including the emergency department, intensive care unit, cardio- and pulmonary departments, abdominal surgery, geriatrics, and other medical departments:

  • ​Implement and develop occupational therapy intervention for hospitalized patients in acute care settings to enhance performance in Activities of Daily Living (ADL).

  • Assessment of occupational performance during ADL tasks and impairment in process and motor skills.

  • Implement and develop interventions targeting oropharyngeal dysphagia for hospitalized patients in acute care setting

  • Screening, assessment, and training of oropharyngeal dysphagia.

  • Assessment of functional limitations and compensatory strategies, guidance and delivery of aiding devices and assessment of need for further rehabilitation.

  • Focus on enhancing physical activities during hospital stay.

  • Optimizing interdisciplinary communication at the hospital and across primary and secondary health sectors to achieve optimal and evidence-based rehabilitation.

  • Ongoing focus on quality assurance of documentation practices.

Examples of ongoing work 

Implementing McGill Ingestive Skill Assessment into clinical practice to enhance activity-based interventions for dysphagia and supporting quality in assessments.
