Physical activity during hospital admission

Focus on creating interventions that promote physical activity during hospitalization

At Amager and Hvidovre Hospital, we focus on creating interventions that promote physical activity during hospitalization. Physiotherapists and occupational therapists play a crucial role in communicating the importance of being physical active during hospitalization. We initiate and facilitate activities that encourage physical activity in interactions with patients, relatives, and interdisciplinary staff.

We aim to support the message of avoiding inactive behavior and work interdisciplinarity to develop initiatives at all levels of the hospital.

Examples of initiative

Course: Physical activity during hospital admission

Developed and running an interdisciplinary course initiated by clinical development therapists, senior researcher, and professor in Physiotherapy.

The course is aimed at physiotherapists and occupational therapists, as well as physiotherapy and occupational therapy students and in the future also nurses, who wish to gain knowledge about the importance of physical activity during hospitalization, and who desire competencies and skills to facilitate increased physical activity for hospitalized older and multimorbid patients.

The course takes place over 2 days, with a smaller assignment based on clinical practice to be worked on between the two course days. There will be approximately 3 weeks between the two course days.
