Why am I bleeding and in pain?
Many women experience pains and bleeding during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. This is normal, but it can also be a sign of a miscarriage or a pregnancy outside the uterus.
Check-up of the foetus
An ultrasound is a good way to check the foetus for a heartbeat and whether the foetus has implanted correctly. If it is very early in the pregnancy, we may not be able to see the foetus on the scan.
In addition to an ultrasound, we will take a blood sample from you to measure the level of HCG (pregnancy hormone) in your blood, which doubles every other day during a normal early pregnancy.
If the HCG levels in your blood are not increasing normally, this can be an indication of a pregnancy outside the uterus or sign of a miscarriage. HCG levels and the ultrasound will often provide us with a clear picture of where the pregnancy is located and how it is progressing. It is often necessary to take several HCG-measurements.
Where do I go for the blood test?
The blood test will be done at the Blodprøvetagningsambulatorie (the outpatient blood test department), section 130, center E, on the ground floor (outpatient floor) between 07:30-10:30.

Things to keep an eye on
While you are following a course of blood tests, pay attention and react to the following:
- Increasing or sudden pain in the stomach and/or in the abdomen
- Heavy vaginal bleeding.

Go home once the blood sample has been taken. We will send you a letter in your e-boks the same day with the future plan.
