Inducing labour

Make a note of when you take your pills

Take one 25-microgram pill of misoprostol (Angusta) every two hours.
Every time you take a pill, note the exact time on the form.

Possible side effects

Very common side effects (frequency: more than one out of ten people experience the side effect):

  • Green amniotic fluid
  • Bleeding after birth

Common side effects (frequency: up to one out of ten people experience the side effect):

  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Fever and shivers
  • Too frequent or too severe contractions

Uncommon side effects (frequency: up to one out of 100 people experience the side effect):

  • Abnormal heart rhythm in the child prior to delivery
  • A low Apgar score for the child at birth

Very rare side effects (frequency unknown):

  • Dizziness
  • Placenta separates before the child is delivered
  • Ruptured placenta
  • Too little oxygen in the child’s blood
  • Convulsions in the child after birth
