​In the new academic book 'A White System? Ethnicity, Norms and Inequality in the Danish Healthcare System' (Et hvidt væsen? Etnicitet, normer og ulighed i det danske sundhedsvæsen), we develop the curriculum on ethnicity, race and health inequities in a Danish healthcare context. The book's chapters draw on the expertise of patients, relatives, healthcare professionals and researchers who have encountered or researched the dynamics that contribute to ethnic and racial inequities in health. Drawing on critical health research, we show how discrimination and unequal treatment is often not a matter of individual attitudes, but rather an effect of the healthcare systems “system" (sundhedsvæsnets “væsen"). ​The purpose of this special issue is to examine how ideas of “race" continue to shape healthcare practices across policy, professions, and institutions. Through the concept of racialization, the issue explores how individuals are implicitly or explicitly ascribed particular expectations or categorizations based on social markers such as appearance, language, religion, and name. The aim is to contribute to the development of an important field of racialization within Danish health research.
